Summary
To develop in each student an insight and understanding of industry and its place in our society; to discover and develop talents of students in the technical fields; to develop practical problem-solving skills related to the materials and processes of industry; to develop in each student skill in the safe use of tools and machines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Teaches skills and knowledge in one or more courses such as: auto mechanics, auto collision, welding, pc repair/networking, building trades, early childhood, restaurant management, nursing or business to secondary students and adults, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished with the allotted time.
- Demonstrates appropriate industrial materials, equipment, tools and processes, using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids.
- Guides students in selection of appropriate elective projects or experiments.
- Maintains an auditable record of student attendance and makes daily reports of students absent each period. Assigns citizenship and scholarship marks.
- Instructs students in use of eye protection and safety guards, and in the use, care, and safe operation of tools, machines, and equipment.
- Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to tools and equipment as required.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil conduct needed to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity-type classroom with many potential hazards.
- Keeps informed of the industrial community's job entry requirements and instructs students in the rudiments of getting and retaining these jobs.
- Evaluates each student's performance, knowledge and skills.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
- Selects and requisitions instructional aids and equipment; maintains required inventory records; makes purchases as authorized.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on the individual student's progress.
- Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. Will work with Advisory Committees
- in development of specific career and technical education programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Provides for student leadership, social and skill development activities utilizing a vocational student organization, classroom instruction and other cooperative school activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the administrator.
Supervisory Duties
Supervises students at all times.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Certificates
Must possess a valid Missouri teaching certificate or be eligible for a Career Education temporary authorization certificate (CTAC). Career Education Temporary authorization route to certification: An individual with closely related occupational experience takes a prescribed list of coursework, teaches for a minimum for two years, and is mentored by the employing school district. The individual works under a one-year, renewable certificate that requires the completion of six (6) semester hours of college credit each year in order to be renewed.
Must possess one of the following qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university and four thousand (4000) hours of Department approved, closely related occupational experience obtained within the past ten (10) years;
- Associates degree from an accredited college or university and five thousand (5000) hours of Department-approved, closely related occupational experience within the past ten (10) year;
- No degree and six thousand (6,000) hours of Department-approved, closely related occupational experience obtained within the past ten (10) years.
Skills and Abilities
Language
Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, board policy, administrative procedures/forms, and government regulations and guidelines. Must be able to complete forms, write reports, and engage in written correspondence with parents. Must have the ability to write clearly and complete lesson plans.
Computation
The individual must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning
Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.
Technology
The individual must understand basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. Will be using district software for recording grades and finding student information.

Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. This individual will be working with industrial materials, equipment, and tools. Frequent exposure to sharps and chemicals should be expected. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading buses, supervising safety drills, and other duties as they may be assigned.
Terms of Employment
183 contract days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board
Policy on Evaluation of Certified staff.
