Job Title:         Music Teacher (Assistant Vocal and Accompanist)

Summary

To develop in each student an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of vocal music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teaches skills in proper vocal technique, sight reading, and explorations in choral music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble) to secondary students. Utilizes course study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Serves as the primary ensemble accompanist for both the Lebanon High School and Lebanon Middle School programs for both concerts and contests.
  3. Accompany Lebanon High School solo and ensemble events at MSHSAA district and state level festivals along with other agreed upon festivals and contests.
  4. Accompany Lebanon Middle School solo and ensemble events at agreed upon festivals and contests.
  5. Assists with all aspects of the choral programs at both Lebanon High School and Lebanon Middle School.
  6. Assists with logistical and managerial responsibilities associated with the Lebanon R3 choral program.
  7. Specific teaching assignments and duties will be collaboratively determined by the vocal music teachers, performing arts department head and administrators.
  8. Provide private and ensemble instruction to students preparing for All District and All State auditions as well as solo and ensemble festivals..
  9. Cooperates with the choir staff in providing music for school assemblies and productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.
  10. Work alongside the choir staff to select and requisition books, equipment, and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.
  11. Assist with student supervision both during school hours and at all choir events
  12. Communicate in a timely and effective manner with parents, school counselors, administration and other relevant parties on student progress.
  13. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  14. Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities related to instrumental music.

Supervisory Duties

Supervises students at all times both during the school day and at band events that occur outside normal school hours.

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Certificates

Bachelor's Degree and valid Missouri teaching certificate required; or such alternative to these qualifications that the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Extensive accompanist skills are a must.

 

Skills and Abilities  

Language

Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, board policy, administrative procedures/forms, and government regulations and guidelines. Must be able to complete forms, write reports, and engage in written correspondence with parents. Must have the ability to write clearly and complete lesson plans.

Computation

The individual must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning

Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.

Technology

The individual must understand basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. Will be using district software for recording grades and finding student information.

The individual who holds this position must have the ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; must be able to move around the classroom; must be able to read handwritten and printed materials.

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading buses, recess duty, and outdoor music performances.

 

Terms of Employment         

183 days.  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

Evaluation     

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board

Policy on Evaluation of Certified Staff.
