Job Title:                District Autism and Behavior Specialist  

Department:          Special Programs 

Reports to:            Director of Special Programs

Classification:       Certified / Exempt

 

Summary

To work to identify students who need Autism and Behavior Supports through the special education process, to support staff in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans, to educate staff on best practices when working with students with Autism and Behavioral needs, to arrange for the provision of such services, to monitor the implementation of service plans for students, to conduct appropriate evaluations and write plans, to provide appropriate social and emotional supports for students; to act as a liaison between school and home for addressing the needs of students. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serve as liaison between the Office of Special Programs and District building(s), families, and the community and collaborates with various teams to assure positive outcomes for students with autism and behavior needs.
  2. Models, implements, and assesses strategies related to students’ learning, social, emotional and behavioral needs to enhance educational programming for students with autism and related disabilities.
  3. Integrates research into the design of student programming and consults with teachers and administrators regarding best practices for classroom and building educational programs for students with autism and behavior needs.
  4. Follows policies, procedures, standards and rules in accordance with national and state laws which include, but is not limited to, developing and maintaining proper and adequate records and documentation.
  5. Creates written and digital professional development materials to provide to District staff.
  6. Provides training in autism instructional practices, strategies and content, including support in planning, development and implementation across environments.
  7. Coordinates Office of Special Services autism and behavior outreach programming accessible to families, educators and community members.
  8. Serves as Office of Special Programs representative for developing lawfully sound IEPs and attending case conference committee meetings for students with Autism, when appropriate.
  9. Serves as liaison to statewide autism resources and facilitates District use of those resources.
  10. Attends meetings, training and conferences, which may require travel to a variety of work sites for the purpose of obtaining or providing information.
  11. Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by the Director of At Risk, Director of Special Programs, or Lebanon R-3 Board of Education.

 

 

Supervisory Duties 

Supervises students at all times.

 

Qualifications 

Education/Experience/Certificates

Must have the following certificate issued by the State Board of Education: 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching or Special Education
  • Masters Degree in Special Education 
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications that the Lebanon R-3 School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

Skills and Abilities  

Language 

Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, board policy, administrative procedures/forms, and government regulations and guidelines. Must be able to complete forms, write reports, and engage in written correspondence with parents. Must have the ability to write clearly and complete lesson plans.

Computation

The individual must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 

Reasoning 

Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students.

Technology

The individual must understand basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. Will be using district software for finding student information.

Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform tasks, such as loading and unloading buses.

 

Terms of Employment

9 month contract – district service is not required when school is not in session.

Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board

Policy on Evaluation of Certified Staff.
