Summary

To provide safe and efficient transportation so students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage of the district’s curriculum and extracurricular program.

                                                    

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1.        Obeys all traffic laws.

2.        Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.

3.        Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.

4.        Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.

5.        Keeps assigned bus clean.

6.        Keeps to assigned schedule.

7.        Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects.

8.        Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.

9.        Discharges students only at authorized stops.

10.      Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.

11.      Transports only authorized students.

12.      Reports all accidents and completes required reports.

13.      Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.

14.      Inspect bus inside and out after each trip.

15.      Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Supervisory Duties

Supervises students while transporting them.

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience

Must demonstrate aptitude and competence for the assigned responsibility.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have valid Class B CDL

Must pass an annual physical and drug testing.

                                                                                                               

Skills and Abilities  

Language

The ability to read and write simple sentences in English, read and understand maps, and possess basic writing skills sufficient to complete pre and post trip reports and student discipline referrals.

Computation

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Must be able to understand American weight, volume and distance measurements.

Reasoning

The ability to understand and follow board policy, administrative procedures, and training/handbook materials.

Additional Skills and Abilities

Must be able to interact in a friendly manner with co-workers, parents, and students.

The individual must be able to sit for long periods of time; occasionally walk and stand; frequently bend and twist the torso and neck; frequently use repetitive arm, wrist, and hand movements; occasionally lift up to 75 lbs; use close, distance, and peripheral vision as well as have good depth perception. Climb up and down steps. Perform emergency exit procedures, including assisting students off the bus using the emergency exit.

Attendance

Consistent and regular attendance are an essential duty of this position.

 

Conditions and Environment

Frequently work in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Occasionally work in rain, sleet, and/or ice and drive in slippery conditions. Continually work in an area of high noise level; including engine noise and the sound of many children speaking; a raised voice may be necessary for communication.

 

Terms of Employment                     

9 months.  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board

Policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
